Dental mplants

Dental implants are becoming an increasingly common method of replacing teeth, providing a minimally invasive and long-term solution. Implants are not just screwed into the bone; they integrate with the bone due to their titanium composition (osseointegration). This integration requires a specific period (2-6 months) to ensure successful bonding, which is crucial for high success rates.

How is the implant placed?

Planning and diagnosis

The implant placement process begins with thorough diagnosis and planning. Our dental surgeons will use X-rays and 3D images to precisely assess your jaw structure and bone tissue, determining the best position for the implants. Together, we will create an individualized plan considering your wishes and goals.

Implant placement

Implant placement is performed on an outpatient basis, usually under local anesthesia to ensure minimal discomfort. Dental surgeons will use special surgical instruments to precisely place titanium screws into the bone tissue. After implant placement, a healing phase called "osseointegration" follows, where the implants gradually bond with the surrounding bone tissue, providing stable support for the replacement teeth.

Attachment of replacement teeth

Once the implants are fully integrated into the bone tissue, the replacement teeth will be attached to the titanium screws. Replacement teeth, such as ceramic crowns, bridges, or dentures, are custom-made for a perfect aesthetic and functional match with your natural teeth. After the procedure, you will receive precise care instructions for your implants and replacement teeth and regular check-ups to ensure the long-term success of your implant treatment.

Answers to frequently asked questions

After a careful clinical examination and 3D CBCT X-ray diagnostics, we determine the number and type of implants. The operation follows under local anesthesia, during which implants are placed in the bone and the wound edges are sutured. We then wait 3-6 months (depending on the type of procedure and implant position) for the bone to integrate with the implant.

The implants are then uncovered, and gum formers are placed to shape the gum around the implant. The gum formers remain on the implant for about 14 days, followed by impressions and the creation of the crown on the implant.

  • 1 implant – The best solution for replacing a single missing tooth. While a bridge can also be used, it requires grinding down two adjacent teeth. A bridge also needs to be replaced when it wears out, which is not the case for crowns on implants. Therefore, you can avoid these issues with a single implant, which allows easy cleaning and keeps adjacent teeth intact.
  • 2 implants – If 2 teeth are missing or multiple teeth are missing on one side of the jaw, implants can be used to support a bridge. Placing two implants in the lower jaw can also stabilize a complete denture effectively.
  • 3 or more implants – More implants are needed for complex prosthetic rehabilitations when many or all teeth are missing.

Implants are suitable for most adults with enough bone tissue to support the implants. To determine your suitability for implants, consult with our implantologists, who will perform thorough diagnostics and planning.

Implant placement is performed under local anesthesia, so the procedure is usually not painful. Some discomfort may occur after the procedure, which can be managed with mild painkillers.

The duration of the implant placement procedure depends on the number of implants and the case’s complexity. It usually takes from a few hours to a few weeks, including the healing phase after implant placement.

If properly maintained, implants can last a lifetime. Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene are crucial for the longevity of your implants.

Implants are a very natural solution for replacing lost teeth, as they integrate closely with the bone tissue and function like natural teeth. They are aesthetically very similar to natural teeth, ensuring a natural and confident smile.

There is often a misconception that implants require less care than natural teeth. However, implants, which are now considered a very successful solution for issues related to partial or complete tooth loss, need proper oral hygiene. Neglecting them can lead to the same fate as natural teeth – they can fall out.

Bacterial plaque that is not regularly or adequately removed can cause tooth decay and periodontal disease, starting with inflamed gums. Similarly, bacteria that linger on the implant surface can cause inflammation around the implant – a condition known as peri-implant disease.

If only the gum around the implant is inflamed, it is called peri-implant mucositis, similar to gingivitis around a tooth. If the bone around the implant dissolves, it is called peri-implantitis, similar to periodontitis around a tooth. Inflammation and bone dissolution around implants progress much faster than around teeth. Therefore, a neglected implant can quickly suffer bone destruction, leading to its loss.
